Sloppy Sourcing: Misinformation or Disinformation? Both are Undesirable
I’m not sure the Pages is an appropriate place for a mini-rant, but I’ll take my chances.
What in tarnation is up with the sloppy sourcing lately? It was from the members here at LGF that I learned to be demanding and meticulous about seeking the most credible sources possible and vetting anything I link to, but for the past couple of months it feels like I’m bumping into misinformation and/or disinformation every time I turn around in the form of:
• Links to extremely questionable blogs, websites, and news sources
• Links to Wikipedia articles with info that is either disputed or lacking citations, in which it is crystal clear that the poster didn’t bother to read or follow any of the footnotes or external links
• Assertions made without supporting evidence, or based solely on anecdotal or one-sided evidence from highly subjective sources
This bites because I know you guys are capable of excellence, therefore it means that either some of you just don’t care enough to check anymore, or you’re knowingly spreading disinformation. I’m not sure which is worse, but neither bodes well for LGF, so please, please let’s go back to being more mindful of what we put out there.
