Really sad. Poor kid.

To be fair, the fuckwad who lets a gun, especially one looking like a toy but really any gun, lying around unattended with small children around let alone those who, seemingly from the article, have not even been instructed in basic firearms safety (and preferably around any children at all) is most to blame here. This is as stupid and senseless as kids dying from drinking something funny-coloured from the sink cabinet because the lid wasn’t childproofed. damn…

Oh and really, bright pink gun? REALLY? That just feels wrong (and yes, I know there’s plenty of those around…)

There are numerous gun nut blogs depicting women getting their badass on with photos posing with their pink guns. There’s a sporting goods store near where we live with a few pink rifles on display. They seem to be popular with conservative feminist types - the anti-choice, anti-gay, hunt your dinner, honor thy husband types; Bachmann, Palin, Barnhardt, etc. Who needs Victoria’s Secret when you can have pink camo underwear?

But pink guns, to me, is a lot like selling bulk rat poison in really pretty Tupperware: Just another bad idea. And leaving guns laying around your kids never turns out well.

Yeah, I know it’s ‘in’ with such folk.
It’s just wrong IMO: I’ve got nothing against firearms (quite the opposite) but really, you’re holding a deadly weapon. For all kinds of legitimate and potentially fun purposes, sure - but making it look ‘cute’ or in any way less dangerous than it is feels really, really wrong.
I actually think “scary black guns” ought to be the standard: make sure everyone realizes pretty damn well what the damn thing is made for!

I agree completely. Guns should never look cute or non threatening. They should never look like a toy.

Also agreed. These are lethal weapons, and need to be treated as such at all times.
