Ex-Tea Party Rep. Joe Walsh wants to stop paying child support because he’s out of a job

After insisting he wasn’t a “deadbeat dad” throughout his failed campaign for re-election, ex-U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh skipped last month’s child support payment and has asked to stop paying altogether.

His reason: Since he’s out of Congress, he’s now unemployed.

Walsh, a flame-throwing Tea Party Republican who was trying to land a radio deal and has launched a social media campaign against Fox commentator Karl Rove, did not pay the $2,134 in child support he owed in January, according to the attorney who represents Walsh’s ex-wife,.

And now Walsh has filed a request in Cook County Circuit Court to stop paying child support because he’s unemployed.

…Walsh’s ex-wife was taken by surprise by a Feb. 1 court filing that asks “to terminate child support obligation,” saying Walsh “is without sufficient income or assets with which to continue to pay his support obligation.”

He’s “without sufficient income or assets”? Really? There are no car, rent, food, clothing, etc. expenses that he could drastically cut back on? He doesn’t have any unnecessary luxury items he could sell? Is his lawyer representing him pro bono?

There are millions of working poor parents—both single & married—who struggle to scrape by every week and see to their kids’ needs at the expense of their own. Walsh deserves zero sympathy. What a frigging self-centered scumbag.
