The first contest of the 2013 ASP World Tour is now underway in Australia. Round 1 of the Men’s division was completed yesterday at Rainbow Bay, just down the beach a bit from Snapper Rocks, the normal contest venue. The sand bank is not fully formed yet at Snapper this year, so contest organizers had to move down to a better section of the Superbank. Fortunately, Rainbow Bay is providing some long, rippable waves for the best surfers in the world to perform on. Kelly Slater won his first round heat yesterday and found the only barrel to be ridden so far in the contest, looking as sharp as ever at the ripe old age of 41.
