And Now, the Link between El Salvadorean Death Squads & US Invasion of Iraq (Video)
Opponents of the USA’s training and organizing of death squads in Central America in the 1980s became very familiar with the pattern of denial & obfuscation about it in all major media and sectors of supposedly respectable society; this knowledge made it very easy to see through the thin veneer of lies, through the levels of deceit and denial that fronted the US invasion and occupation of Iraq. (In the 1980s the memory of the moral bankruptcy of the Vietnam War, and its slaughter of millions justified by lies, was also fresh.) From Judith Miller’s series of reports in the NYT to the trotting out of various experts from both political parties to assure us that the new object of our military wrath was in all ways the “evil” that the president said he was, that he was guilty of every crime we could make up, all this was really just the same old story of the war profiteers of various stripes, mixed with the sadistically power-mad, lining up their next target.
So maybe it should have been no shock when actual American culprits in the El Salvadorean death squads were sent to Iraq soon after the invasion to set up death squads that increased the sectarian violence that is tearing the country apart to this day, as The Guardian reminds us in this new report.
This five-minute video is just the trailer for the hour-long film. Watch it.
