PATTANI, Thailand: 2 Thai Officials Killed in Southern Bombing - World Wires - MiamiHerald.com
Police say a deputy provincial governor and his secretary have been killed in a roadside bomb attack in Thailand’s insurgency-plagued south.
Police Col. Charoen Thammakhan says a group of suspected militants hid an improvised bomb on a road and detonated it as the deputy governor’s motorcade passed by Friday in Bannang Sata district in Yala province.
The explosion immediately killed provincial clerk Chaovalit Chairerk. Yala’s deputy governor, Issara Thongthawat, later died at a hospital.
