Venezuela gov’t bloodies opposition in National Assembly session
Dragged Kicking-and-Screaming Into Clandestinity
The events in the Assembly today were deeply shocking. With dissident congresspeople now not merely barred from speaking, not merely deprived of their salaries but repeatedly physically assaulted, just for showing up, Venezuela’s parliament is as good as dissolved.
The pro-Chavez government in Venezuela is illegitimate and will try everything to stay in power. They lost the April 14th presidential election but committed fraud in the voting process to claim victory. They refuse a full audit even though the constitution (written by Hugo Chavez) says it must be done.
