I saw the Surfers in 1989 and it is an experience I will never forget. Gibby on the bullhorn, the sound, the videos. It was surreal to say the least and I enjoyed every minute of it.

John Waters all the way!
That video is totally Texas.

Yeah I saw them in Auckland, NZ in the 90s - Sonic Youth and Nirvana the same year. Definitely Buttholes kicked ass in all sorts of ways. Nirvana were energetic but boring, and the Sonics were mind-blowingly amazing: a total noise gig, which I loved - and the kids hated, to the delight of we art school snobs.
But the Buttholes were not only deliciously noisey, but a machine of twisted audio visual - and other senses, at times - entertainment… their live shows give a dimension to their music which is unforgettable and long-lasting - to this day, memories of that gig give their albums a third dimension in my head. I flash back to that gig whenever their music is on, I;m a kid again, swimming in the freak. Fucking cool, maaaaan.
