“We love Ayn Rand in a Christ-affirming racist kind of way.”

Hard to tell if the big fish swallowed the little fish or the little fish swallowed the big fish.

The poll asked Republican voters what they are most interested in: 40 percent said “individual freedom through lower taxes and reducing the size and scope of government,” 27 percent picked “traditional values” and 18 percent chose a “strong national defense.”

Choices #1 and #3 are contradictory. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Two-thirds of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said they want their member of Congress to “keep their promises and stick to principles” as opposed to “compromise in a bipartisan way to get things done.

In other words, they’ve adopted the terrorist philosophy of “it’s our way or we kill the country”.

Nice.

That ‘poll’, commissioned by FreedomWorks, is actually just another tool they created to complete their takeover of the Republicans. The party is not going away, is is being pushed deliberately in the ‘libertarian’ direction. The survey is interpreted to their advantage, no matter the result. This is from the end of the article:

Three-quarters of the 18-to-32-year-olds, however, said they believe current economic conditions can be changed by the federal government in Washington.

Conway argues that neither party has a corner on younger voters.

“There’s no realignment to progressivism,” she said.

Bullshit denial in the face of facts they gathered themselves.

If you talk to most Republicans, they don’ think Bush was belligerent enough.

This particular laissze-faire attitude and “traditionalism” aren’t anything new though. It’s just Goldwater and Robert Taft rebranded.

Here’s how I see it.

Republicans Embracing Libertarian Anarchist Priorities

Since, in my opinion, the central belief of both ‘libertarians’ and anarchists is that all forms of authority save personal are illegitimate demonstrates they are the same type of people.

‘Libertarianism’ is a marketing ploy. No more and no less.

The GOP is meandering into irrelevance. Most people expect their government to take actions to improve things. When the GOP says to them “Nope, we’ve got nothing, you’re on your own”, their share of the electorate is going to just keep shrinking.

I hear many conservatives like Beck call themselves libertarians all the time but I don’t see much libertarianism. Not that I’m a fan of libertarianism either mind you but the Republican Party has grown more anti-gay and anti-choice which are anathema to libertarian ideology.

When Republicans get all tough-talking in my face, I quickly remind them that they are sitting in an armchair behind a computer screen, thousands of miles from the excitement. And do not have to bury the bodies or face the misery of the carnage they are so glibly cheerleading.

I’m a total dick about it. But, I remember the heedless, vicious rush to war in Iraq too well. Whenever I see people trying to repeat that, I make sure to step in and shit on it as hard as I can. These fucks love to write checks for others’ bodies to cash.

In other words, libertarians are five-year-olds who are angry that Mom and Dad make the rules.

That is how I treat them.

78 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents self-identify as fiscally conservative and socially moderate.

This is total bullshit. Most Republicans are neither and that’s why they are Republicans. Unless of course “fiscally conservative” means cut taxes for the rich and “socially moderate” means I don’t give a damn about other people.
