You don’t have to be sorry at all here CL, it drives me crazy too. The rise of Eurofascism is something that we have to watch for and it’s even madder when we see supposedly mainstream conservatives giving creedence to LePen, Wilders, and the others bullshit just because the aforementioned oppose radical Islam. You being a Muslim know as well as anyone that you don’t have to be a bigot to see the dangers of radical Islam. These people are dangerous and it’s even more fucked up that Wilders uses the language of someone concerned about Israel and the Jewish people while he makes pattycake with the daughter of one of France’s biggest Antisemites.

The lessons of history are invisible to these people. God save us from haters like these.

Yeah, some people let their hate & fear completely override their judgement. Apart from the the typical anti-Islam stuff at Alegemeiner, at least one of the 10 comments was anti-Semitic (I won’t link to it as you can find it in the Google search results I posted above):

‘What We Need Today is Zionism for the Nations of Europe’.

What we need is people to understand Christianity is it’s true context and understand the Jews are not the people of the Bible. They are imposters.

There was also a rabbi who wasn’t buying it:

Geert Wilders is totally driven by opposition to Islam. When opposition to Islam is good for the Jews, he is pro-Jewish. When opposition to Islam is against the Jews, he is anti-Jewish.
An illustration of his anti-Jewish position is his position on Ritual Slaughter. He opposes shechita, because of his opposition to Challal.

Did you notice the content of the “Day in history” sidebar in the source article at the European Jewish Press? I thought it was fitting:

17 September 1394
Jewish Quarter of Paris plundered.
Charles VI, using the pretense that a Jewish convert in Paris, Denis Machuit, returned to Judaism, he once again expelled the Jews.
The order, signed on Yom Kippur, was enforced on November 3.

Signed on Yom Kippur, of all days. France… Le Pen… I’m just… *smh*

I think this rabbi and indeed many in the Jewish community are well aware of the fact that the ideological ancestors of Wilders or in the case of Ms. LePen (literally since it’s her father) the most vile perpetrators of anti-semitism. I sincerely believe that they want to use Israel and the Jewish people as pawns only to dispose of them once they get rid of Muslims as a scapegoat.

You know, as heavy & ugly as the anti-Muslim Islamophobic stuff gets, the “Islam vs the West” animosity is still relatively recent (I’m thinking here of the Crusades) and it had to do with war & conquest. The anti-Semitic stuff is much older & deeper, and… I dunno, I can’t quite put my finger on it. I mean, it’s not as if the Jews gathered up a huge army and invaded Europe. Strange, that hatred. I can’t really wrap my head around the “why” of it.

I agree with this observation. I believe a significant part of the explanation is that early leaders of Christianity included religious zealots that were heavily into scapegoating Jews for all the ills of the world.

To this day, the anti-Semitic ravings of church fathers like John Chrysostom are rarely exceeded in term of virulence.

Oh, no doubt the anti-semitism is older. I guess what I mean is the spirit of the stuff is the same. Having studied the Russian empire’s policies towards its Jewish subject, a lot of the hostility directed at Muslims reminds me of what Jews had to go through. Jews in many European nations were seen as suspicious. I can’t comprehend the hatred either. It’s just bizarre.
