It really is a conservative’s wet dream.
It’s no wonder that leaders like Putin are becoming more attractive to right wingers - they’re beginning to realize what those of us who pay attention have known for decades: he’s a hard right winger who loves and hates everything the Tea Party loves and hates. Democracy? Hate. Gay people? HATE. Greed? Looooove. The ‘freedom’ to determine other people’s lives, using the excuse that it’s not you but your ‘religion’ LOOOOOVE. Demanding accountability for the powerless, yet demanding ‘freedom’(no accountability) for those who get the most benefit from government? Oh yeah - NOW we’re rockin’…
Using private contractors to do your bidding for plausible deniability(barely plausible) - be it political or military? Putin’s NASHI were the fucking blueprints for the Tea Party. I know Tea Partiers wish they, too, could go out and beat political opponents, gay people and minorities - with the blessings of their political leaders. I certainly see many of them fantasize about it and celebrate when it happens.

And on and on it goes.

The ex communist bloc selling subservient women to the west is very much an allegory for what I predict will be a long love affair between the East’s relatively new hard right, and America’s right wing. And Canada’s for that matter.

Love’s not an easy game folks, and we don’t know if he’s a misogynist or anything like that. He seems like your average middle aged dude. It doesn’t look like this is human trafficking or anything coerced or shady. Maybe he just wants a woman that hopefully treats him right and he can find that special connection riase a family be her knight and she his lady.

I find foreign woman (women as whole actually) very attractive so maybe I sympathize with him too much, and perhaps it was the music and cute drawings.

The “coercive” part, potentially, is that she is coming from Ukraine where life is quite hard on women. The threat of being forced to return if she gets divorced forces her to remain married if the guy turns out to be awful. And don’t forget, if she does not please him, he can divorce her and send her back.

Yes, it’s possible he is a socially inept dude who found this the easiest way to find a bride, but you can bet the majority of these marriages are just a way for an insecure asshole to achieve complete domination over a woman.

I remember seeing a show on Russian women looking for American men a few years ago. The two women that were feature prominently both had a child (one had a daughter and the other had a son…both of them “tweens”)

The woman with a daughter married quite happily as far as I could see and her daughter bonded quite strongly with her new American dad.

The other woman (she was actually the daughter of a former Soviet Air Force fighter pilot) married a type A personality business guy from Georgia who very badly wanted to be the “Man Of The House”.

It tickled me to no end when I saw her blithely ignoring his “suggestions” for how to cook breakfast one morning. When he asked why she didn’t do things the way he said, she replied:
“Because your ideas are no good!”

No submissive Russian wife in this lady! She was not argumentative or combative. She simply did things in the house to suit herself and he could like it or lump it. However, I noted that they presented an implacable united front when they were dealing with poor grades from her son at school, and that the new dad took his role very seriously. The kid got the stone faced glare from both of them and a severe dressing down from Dad on the need for better performance at school.
