You can’t have grown up in New York in the ’90s (or maybe, anywhere, ever?) and not have known the wild tale of Allen marrying his college-aged step-daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. But, somehow, that became a part of his oddball legend. The man made a great movie, but we all knew he was a whackadoo in real life. But, what of this other daughter? What about Dylan in the attic, found terrified and naked from the waist down, claiming that her father put his fingers inside of her? Why isn’t this part of the story?

Although I do usually separate the artist from their art, there are a few who have been on my ignore list for years because I don’t want to support anything they do or create. Woody Allen has been on that list for years, along with Mel Gibson and Roman Polanski.

I honestly had missed this story. The part about marrying his step-daughter was creepy enough to turn me away from WA for good. But his more obscure scandal just gave me the shivers.

And why was it so obscure anyway? Because we liked him? So what? We liked Michael Jackson too, but that didn’t keep everyone quiet about his skeletons.

I suspect the answer has something to do with a) the gender of the victim and b) the race of the perpetrator.

I don’t think Allen really cares about children except what he can get from them, and I don’t doubt these stories about him being a molester. He probably molested Soon-Yi Previn as well, but she accepted it over time and is living with it, perhaps in fear of him, but living with it nonetheless, in his fantasy. Allen is now 78. HIs ex, Mia Farrow, is now 68. Soon-Yi is in her 40s, and the girl he allegedly molested, is in her late 20s now. The allegations have faded from public memory as the main characters age. I have a feeling we won’t know all the gory details until both Allen and Farrow have passed away, if ever.

In Allen’s mind, carrying on with Soon-YI was just fine, despite her being the adopted sister of the kids Allen had with Farrow. Allen and Farrow never married, so technically he was not committing incest. But Allen helped break up a family — his own.

I’ve also stayed away from Woody (I must add that I never liked his work much in the first place), but this is downright rancid.

It’s next to impossible to defend Woody’s actions 20+ years ago that led to the end of his relationship with Mia Farrow. However, the main reason this story has recently regained so much attention was because of the high profile Vanity Fair article last October.

Coincidentally, that very same month, October, 2013, Mia Farrow’s brother was sentenced to 25 years in jail for sexually abusing two young boys over a period of eight years.

It’s rather interesting that Mia, Ronan, etc. refuse to comment about the latter case which resulted in an actual conviction whereas the former did not.

People will often support (or at least not denounce) blood relatives such as siblings in situation where they would scream about anyone else.
