Democrats, GOP React to Walsh Appointment to U.S. Senate
Starting Tuesday, John Walsh will be a U.S. Senator, following his appointment Friday morning by Governor Steve Bullock to replace Max Baucus, who was confirmed on Thursday by the U.S. Senate to become the next U.S. Ambassador to China.
At a press conference attended by dozens of supporters, Walsh - former adjutant general of the Montana National Guard - said the troops he led in Iraq provided inspiration he draws on every day, and will continue to do so in the Senate.
“Today, I’ve been asked to serve the state in a new role - to represent all Montanans in the United States Senate,” he said. “And I accept that responsibility knowing full well that there’s a tremendous amount of work to be done in Washington.”
