Russ Campbell’s Blog: Dippers at It Again?
The sneaky DipÂpers are apÂparÂently, once again, tryÂing to put one over on us. ReadÂers may reÂmemÂber that, folÂlowÂing Jack LayÂton’s death, the New DeÂmocÂrats dreamed up a scheme to isÂsue poÂlitÂiÂcal tax reÂceipts for doÂnaÂtions inÂtended for the BroadÂbent InÂstiÂtute. This time, they’re usÂing taxÂpayer money to fund staff in “satelÂlite” ofÂfices in QueÂbec and Saskatchewan.
For both schemes, NDP spokesperÂsons pubÂlicly asÂsured CanaÂdiÂans they had cleared their plans in adÂvance. And both times their clever plans were shut down once they came unÂder pubÂlic scrutiny.
AfÂter forÂmer NDP leader Jack LayÂton died in 2011, his famÂily asked that, in lieu of flowÂers, doÂnaÂtions be made to the BroadÂbent InÂstiÂtute, a left-wing think tank named afÂter forÂmer NDP leader Ed BroadÂbent. Since the BroadÂbent InÂstiÂtute lacked tax-staÂtus as a charÂity, howÂever, the doÂnaÂtions went through the NDP and were later to be transÂferred to the think tank.
