Russ Campbell’s Blog: Will Trudeau’s Party Pay for His Ill-Chosen Words?
Justin Trudeau has talked himÂself into a defamaÂtion lawÂsuit that is likely to leave his party quite a bit lighter in the walÂlet. The shoot-from-the-lip LibÂeral leader and his OnÂtario camÂpaign co-chair David MacÂNaughton are named in a $1.5-milÂlion liÂbel suit filed on beÂhalf of ChrisÂtine Innes, a canÂdiÂdate who was barred from runÂning for the LibÂeral party.
Innes had wanted to conÂtest the LibÂeral nomÂiÂnaÂtion for the pendÂing by-elecÂtion in TrinÂity-SpadÂina, the seat vaÂcated when New DeÂmoÂcÂrat MP Olivia Chow reÂsigned to run for mayor of Toronto. TrinÂity-SpadÂina and Toronto CenÂtre ridÂings will cease to exÂist in 2015 when reÂdisÂtriÂbÂuÂtion comes into efÂfect. As a reÂsult, three new Toronto ridÂings will be creÂated from the two curÂrent ones.
