I got 80%. Rather disappointed actually.

2 EmmaAnne  May 7, 2014 10:36:03am

76%. I has a sad. No Googling at all though - only what was in my head.

CuriousLurker,

If it makes you feel better, I didn’t do the best either. I got a lot of them wrong as well.

4 Bubblehead II  May 7, 2014 10:38:36am

Well I’m not a total moron. 54% That said many of those questions were in fields I never really studied. Guess I need to expand mey technical reading in the future.

*Edit. Not to mention grammer %-)

5 Rightwingconspirator  May 7, 2014 10:42:47am

OUCH!

You answered 37 of 50 questions correctly for a total score of 74%.

What makes it harder is the multidisciplinary side. You could be an astrophysics major and miss the cellular/DNA stuff.

I missed manometers in a centimeter. On Bernoulli principle I have a quibble, reduce the volume (of the space available) a fluid is in and you get the increase in pressure that gets you the increase in the speed of the fluid-Like in a venturi. So I think they had 2 right answers.

And I suck at biology.

18 Shiplord Kirel  May 7, 2014 11:54:55am

This is a very tough test. I got 90% right, 45 of 50, but I have been a professional scientist for 35 years.

I missed nanometers too, and I know it perfectly well! But I got some right that I guessed, so the score is probably pretty accurate.

21 Pip's Squeak  May 7, 2014 12:01:15pm

Got 86. Some of the others I should have gotten right, but ‘mu’? On the other hand my field is a handful of dead languages, so needn’t feel too bad.

22 Shiplord Kirel  May 7, 2014 12:08:11pm

I missed a couple of questions I shouldn’t have, on momentum and the heaviest noble gas. Probably just a senior moment*. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

*One of the advantages of being old is that you can blame every error, slip-up, brain fart, and temper tantrum on advanced age.
When I was 25, it was “What the hell is wrong with you?!! How could you be that stupid?!1”

Damn.

Okay, now I don’t feel quite so bad. Still, some of the stuff… gah! Maybe I’ll go back over the weekend and retake it until I learn all the answers.

25 nines09  May 7, 2014 12:49:36pm

High school education and in my 60’s. Got a 70 and that was with speed and guessing because I have to leave to see Joe Bonamassa tear the roof off a theatre in Wilkes Barre Pa. I got a “C”. 35/15 I PASSED!!!!!!!!

26 sizzzzlerz  May 7, 2014 1:15:29pm

90% here.

Those years of watching Jeopardy finally paid off! Boo-yah!

27 First As Tragedy, Then As Farce  May 7, 2014 1:18:32pm

A lot of these questions don’t have as much to do with actual science as they do with the history of science and in certain cases, linguistics.

28 EiMitch  May 7, 2014 1:19:05pm

I only got the first question right. But that might’ve had something to do with the rest of the quiz not loading. I’ll try again later.

29 Jack Burton  May 7, 2014 1:22:11pm

I missed the Gregor Mendel question, the Bernoulli’s Principle one, and I screwed up the math in my head on the one newton on 200 gram object question. (shamefully easy too)

I guessed on the mitosis one but got it right.

88% - Varek Raith & Randall Gross
86% - Pip’s Squeak
82% - First As Tragedy, Then As Farce
80% - Romantic Heretic
76% - EmmaAnne & sffilk
74% - Political Atheist
70% - nines09

If you have Ghostery (or similar) installed, it won’t progress past the first question when you click “next”. Apparently at least one of the 60+ trackers/widgets/nonsense engines they’re using is a critical part of the navigation,

34 First As Tragedy, Then As Farce  May 7, 2014 1:36:46pm

41/50, wouldn’t have been that high if it wasn’t multiple choice.

I had to pause ghostery as well so I second this, anything blocking the legion of BS on there might mess with the test.

39 iossarian  May 7, 2014 1:58:55pm

86%, but in my defense I had to do the last 15 or so questions in the 2 minutes leading up to a meeting.

*shakes fist at Shiplord Kirel*

40 cuzIsaidso  May 7, 2014 1:58:57pm

92% for scientist/teacher.
Mu, Eris, -nimbus, joule

41 wrenchwench  May 7, 2014 2:01:42pm

I was going to take the fifth, or just pretend I never saw this, but I’ll spill. I got 62%. I would have done worse without some scattered Greek stuff rattling around in my head. I got some lucky guesses right, and some unlucky guesses wrong.

I suppose that’s not bad for a bike mechanic with a sociology degree.

49 EPR-radar  May 7, 2014 3:00:19pm

re: #48 Randall Gross

I got that one right more through knowledge of mythology than science.

There were several questions where non-scientific knowledge was sufficient to determine the answer e.g., old rock = paleolithic.

50 goddamnedfrank  May 7, 2014 3:26:42pm

94%. I missed the one about Eris, Mu as the friction coefficient, and the one about Nimbus clouds.

51 Mentis Fugit  May 7, 2014 3:27:30pm

I now know what the suffix “-nimbus” means. 98%.

52 wrenchwench  May 7, 2014 3:36:12pm

HA!

I got Eris right.

It was one of my lucky guesses (aided by process of elimination based on some of that random Greek stuff in the head.)

Yeah, all my misses were biology/paleontology. I’m glad the test was as physics and chemistry heavy as it was though. I’ve got a BS in physics.

46/50 for 92%!

I also noticed the concentration in physics/chemistry, which helped me quite a bit. But the real background I had for this was spending a few years reading every bit of science-related non-fiction I could get my hands on when I was growing up.

That’s my excuse for Eris, since that is a recently developed bit of science trivia.

54 freetoken  May 7, 2014 4:02:17pm

58 EiMitch  May 7, 2014 5:59:15pm

I don’t have Ghostery. I have DoNotTrackMe. I turned it off and the quiz worked just fine. Unfortunately, so did the ads. It never blocked all ads, just the majority of them. My dinosaur PC runs alot better with fewer ads. But I digress.

I got 60% right, and I’m ashamed of how often I had to guess. Whats more, the site says atm that the average score is 66%. I feel so inadequate.

Of course, I always feel inadequate. So no biggie.

re: #52 wrenchwench

HA!

I got Eris right.

It was one of my lucky guesses (aided by process of elimination based on some of that random Greek stuff in the head.)

Eris is the one who started the Trojan War. When she tossed a golden apple at a feast of the Gods that was ‘for the fairest.’

The goddesses went to Paris to decide and Aphrodite bribed him with Helen.

The rest is literature.

67 kirkspencer  May 7, 2014 8:25:21pm

68%, and while there were a couple of “duh I knew that” there were also a couple of successful “it’s one of these two” picks to balance.

86% here.

Missed the eukaryote , most abundant element in earth’s crust, Hubble, mitosis, Africa, net force of 1N on a 200g object, and scalene triangles.

Three of those I should have gotten right but was the victim of overthinking them.

69 Maxwell Not So Smart  May 7, 2014 9:31:33pm

Heh, I don’t even have a clue what that means, so I definitely would’ve missed that unless I guessed lucky. At least you finished. You tried instead of giving up in despair less than halfway through, like I did.

94%. I missed the one about Eris, Mu as the friction coefficient, and the one about Nimbus clouds.

A: The one with the smallest mu.

77 Maxwell Not So Smart  May 8, 2014 2:21:49pm

I’m not sure what it says that getting a 74% on a quiz where the average score is 66% gets you near the bottom of the list on website but I like it.

Next time I do a quiz on this site I’m not doing it after midnight and rushing through it so I can get in bed.

alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta eta theta, the only iota i had :)

It’s a pretty poor test, IMHO. Too many questions with hints from “humanities” - if one knows some basic Latin and Greek roots, as well as bits of mythology, one can answer quite a lot of questions without really being scientifically literate.
