Macro! Just in case you missed it…
Reposting an earlier comment as a Page just because I can. I lied, actually it’s because Charles always seems to post a shiny new thread right about the time I want to say something. Good thing he gave us the nifty “Comment to LGF Page” button or I’d be starting to think he does it on purpose and holding a grudge.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled blogging to bring you this very important message: The UPS guy was LATE today—he didn’t show up with my new macro lens until like 8:15pm. I was pissed because there wasn’t much light left and I didn’t feel like dragging out the speedlight, so I only got to take about half a dozen quick, mediocre snapshots before the cats got annoyed and ran off. Below is the best one.
As you can see, at f/2.8 the depth of field is razor thin—no wider than the cat’s nostril. For those of you who like to pixel peep, I’ve also included a crop of what the nose looks like at 100% magnification. As you can see, there’s a pretty significant amount of noise as the ISO was set to 3200, and it’s not perfectly focused as the cat was squirming and the camera chose a shutter speed of 1/25 second, which really wasn’t fast enough. Oh, and I was prolly a little further than the minimum focusing distance away (min. is 1 ft—I’d guesstimate I was at around 14-15 in).
Anyway, I think I’m going to have lots of fun with this lens and will probably end up boring you all to tears with macro shots—need to try getting closer with better light. Did I mention it’s heavy? Yeah, ugh, that’s the only part I don’t like. The lens alone weighs almost 1.5 lbs (21.1 oz to be exact), so when you add it to the camera body, which also has a battery grip… sore arms.
I now return you to whatever fights, discussions, complaints, trollings, etc. were in progress…
