Besides the people making tons of money, who thinks mercenaries are a good idea?

Why does it take so many years to prosecute cases? These killings were in 2007 and it is almost 2015! Sure, we want investigations to be thorough but sometimes it just seems like our legal system is on steroids. How many delaying tactics are routinely being made available to well-heeled defendants? I have not witnessed many court proceedings, but those that I have were ridiculously slowly paced with absurd amounts of redundancy. The court’s time is expensive because so many people are working there: guards, judges, prosecutors and court stenographers. Surely they could speed things up to better serve justice and save tax payers money.

Prosecutors said the shooting was unprovoked. But with little forensic evidence and no ballistics linking any gunman to any victim, the case came down to the testimony of witnesses. Many told conflicting stories, forcing prosecutors to urge jurors to believe some aspects of their own case and discount others.

Oh, this is a mirror image of the German Nazi trials. And shows once again that you don’t have to have “forensics”, CSI-style, to convict.
