Good for her; the quarantine is about nothing but politics and fear.

I think fear is winning. From the Portland Press Herald

“They’re just really nervous,” Tammy Daigle said from behind the lunch counter at Stevie D’s Panini Plus. “I think they are having a hard time understanding why she wants to come up here for quarantine.”

Even worse:

University [of Maine at Fort Kent] officials announced Monday that if [Wilcox’s boyfriend] Wilbur had been in direct contact with Hickox since she was released from quarantine in New Jersey, he would not be allowed back on campus until he also had cleared health checks.
[…]
Students at the university campus said Monday that some classmates were panicked by the possibility that Wilbur might return to campus after being in contact with Hickox, and some vowed to boycott classes if Wilbur did return.

Just remember it was not that long ago that Anthrax Terror was a big issue and the news and RWNJ Spaz-O-Sphere’s conventional wisdom was to do this. So a logical reasoned approach to a woman who was “infected” by proximity to infected persons and has tested negative would be insane.

She’s absolutely right to do this. Quarantining people who aren’t sick is a stupid overreaction driven by blind paranoia, not medicine or science. Health workers should self-monitor for symptoms and be on the alert, but that’s as far as it needs to go.

All this craziness from four confirmed cases of Ebola in a country of 300 million people. Total insanity.

Just imagine the outbreak of a Spanish type influenza virus in these modern enlightened times. There would probably be more shooting deaths than disease deaths. We’ve come so far….
Half of me thinks a large part of this nation went off the rails, and suffers from a PTSD from 9-11 and the ensuing lunacy.

One more item from the Portland Herald piece about the school that wants to ban the nurse’s boyfriend:

Wilbur, Hickox’s boyfriend, is a nursing student at the school.

I wonder if he can transfer to a nursing program at a school where they believe in science.

Boyfriend already went on record that he would not return to the school until Hickox’s 21 day quarantine period was successfully completed. The whole school panic thing is a non-issue to begin with.
