As a member of a family full of Spectrum dwellers, I am in no way surprised.

I’m not either. Even though I don’t know of anyone else in my immediate family that has Asperger’s, I have definitely seen traits of it in my family.

Will this study put paid to all the anti-vaxxer nonsense? We can but hope, but I’m not holding my breath.

No, unfortunately, it won’t. Some people have wrapped their identities around the idea that vaccines cause autism.

I have an autistic nephew and I’m not surprised either.

I think this is one of those “no shit” types of things.

Of course many diseases have an environmental bias, especially cancers of the lungs due to smoking, coal mining. Heart Disease due to obesity etc.

But most conditions are very much largely genetic I would imagine.

Its just the hand that the genetic lottery gives you. Sometimes both parents give their offspring a recessive gene(s) that can be catastrophic to the life of said offspring.

One side of my family is saturated with degenerative diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gout, the other side is full of individuals with clinical depression(me, my sister, my mother, several aunts and uncles, and almost all of my cousins), bipolar disorder, and social anxiety disorder.

I take two medications for the depression and social anxiety disorder and I was just diagnosed last year with RA.

By the way Wellbutrin is a godsend. I completely lost out on so many experiences in my twenties due to depression and anxiety problems. I’ve been in a relationship for six months now(four or five months than most of mine have ever lasted). Having the self esteem to actually allow someone to love you instead of telling yourself constantly that you are worthless and undeserving of love is like having a 200 pound cinder block taken off of your back for good.

Reading this I now realize that I have gone on a tangent and have lost the thread. My apologies.

Some good news for gout sufferers. They seem to have a lower risk of Alzheimer’s.

Same here, but with Celexa. Anyone dealing with clinical depression or anxiety, please work with your doctor or psychiatrist to fine a medication that works for you. It can change your whole life.

I read somewhere RE Asperger’s and family that a person with Asperger’s can be described as the tallest mountain in a mountain range, meaning there are usually others in the family who show Asperger’s traits.

Don’t worry about it. I’m with you on the fairly recently diagnosed. I’m on Effexor and it has been such a blessing. It’s like I’m suddenly a real person. I’ve also just started getting counseling. All I can say is, wish I’d started sooner.
When it comes to depression and GAD, I don’t give a damn what people say. Take the medication. It’s worth it.

Yes! When people attack mood meds, I get a little cranky. I used to wake up in the blackest panics. My doctor increased my dose, and boom, they were gone. People who attack mental health meds don’t know what they’re talking about.
