She has my vote for ‘Mom of the Year.”

I was reading Alice’s writeup about her experience, elaborating more about her tweets. My 10-year-old daughter glanced at what I was reading. A little later in the car, she started asking questions. Lots and lots of questions, most of which would probably freak out the ordinary parent. I answered every single one of them honestly and factually. I will always do that. I want her very informed about her body and about sex, that there is nothing shameful about it, etc. All in all, a very good talk, and a continuation of what I hope will always be an open topic of discussion as she reaches her teen years.

Bad descriptions from that teacher were easy to spot. A die roll like the one described should be said as ‘8D6’, not as “rolling this dice 8 times”. As it stood, the teacher definitely ‘game-mastered’ the results.

///Gamlers fallacy anyone knows that in reality rolling one die 8 times yields just as random a result as rolling eighth separate dice!

The ‘one failure in eight’ concept correctly refers to the cumulative failure rate for condoms over a year while having the average number of sexual encounters per year in a relationship. That’s very different from a failure rate of one in eight per try, which yields very close to a 100% failure rate over a year.

The eager ignorance, and often outright blatant dishonesty, of today’s conservatives in this country is mind-boggling and disgusting.

To be fair, too many people don’t understand how that kind of math works.

/I wish I was kidding.
