Sorry, I couldn’t help it.

But he thought help would be available in an emergency

I’m not sure what this means. Did he think he’d be able to run out and buy health insurance when he started to get sick—something the law was expressly intended to prevent? He chose not to buy insurance and therefore pay the tax penalties; in essence, he was throwing his money away.

It’s good that there are people who are willing to help him out of a situation he put himself into, but I personally will reserve my sympathy (and charity) for people who are struggling through no fault of their own.

re: #2 Jay in Oregon

What it means is that he bought into the (stupid) idea the conservatives have that uninsured people will be OK because they can always go to the emergency room. That works if you are hit by a car or are a pregnant woman in labor. Chronic conditions? Not so much.

I keep thinking there is something wrong with this story. He can’t borrow money against the house he supposedly owns? His wife can’t or won’t get a job? He has no friends or relatives to borrow from?
The narrative is almost too perfect.

You are now free to go blind. You have the liberty to not see. This guy is a dolt. Gee. Now somebody has to pay for him. isn’t that the whole anti ACA argument? Something for nothing? I remember working for a company who finally gave us some dental insurance. It wasn’t the best, but half a loaf and all that, it was something. One of my co-workers, whose dental health was on life support, looked at the note with that paycheck announcing the new plan. He mumbled something to the effect that “It wasn’t much.” All I could think was, his teeth were never high on his list of things to try and save, and now “it’s not much?”

Check out the comments on his GoFundMe page. There’s a bunch of people berating him, but there’s actually a lot of liberal people donating. Some of them signed their comments “libtard” and “feminazi” lol

I gave him 20 bucks. Will he learn a valuable lesson after all is said and done?

Almost entirely unlikely, but I still want him to be ok.
