of course all that anti-government bluster goes right out the window once they gain power and are able to force their own agenda.

Oh of course. Alex Jones was treating by conservative and Republicans and how he talked about the government was treated as kooky in the Bush years. I still remember Ron Paul’s Tea Party which was widely derided by much of the right. They didn’t really care much about the fact that Bush is the one who increased the debt dramatically either.

Of course. They worship authority, as long as that authority is white and Christian.

It was expected that the authoritarians would go completely bonkers when someone they consider an outsider became the authority.

Which is how the people who championed the Bush administration’s expansion of executive power the most became convinced when Obama became president that the executive is now too powerful. Hell I’ve even seen it here granted not with the paranoia but with the same dishonesty.

When two of the sons of one of the founders of the John Birch Society just so happen to be principal financiers of the Republican Party - and espouse those same beliefs, it should come as absolutely no surprise that the GOP has mainstreamed what once was a fringe element.

With the exception of being openly antisemitic, the modern right is in full lock step with the Bircher platform of old.
