Elephant Hunter Crushed to Death by Baby Elephant

A celebrated Texas-born hunter was crushed to death by a baby elephant in Zimbabwe as he tried to measure its ivory tusks for an American client.

Ian Gibson, 55, was a lauded figure among U.S. safari enthusiasts, who would commission him to slaughter prized animals near his home in South Africa.

On Wednesday, he was tentatively approaching the young bull elephant in Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Valley when the animal charged, and knelt on Gibson until he died.

Only if it’s terrible whenever justice is served. I mean, sure, that elephant acted like judge, jury and executioner, but what’s an elephants to do without courts or legal representation?

I’m sure this guy has people who loved him, and will miss him, and I sympathize with them.

But I’m on the elephants’ side. Maybe this will make other people who prey on elephants think twice.

Yeah, in trying to find out at what age elephants begin growing their tusks, I made the mistake of googling it and ended up being confronted with horrible photos of butchered elephants whose tusks were where hacked out of their heads and their corpses left to rot wherever they fell.

So if he was hired, what is the major difference between him and rouge poachers? A dead elephant is a dead elephant. And that market ensures the death of elephants only for the ivory. Legal or not.

Its nice when nature gets a win every once in a while.

Sorry for the family of this man of course, every death, especially an unnecessary one like this is a tragedy, but he and his guides most likely knew the risks of venturing out into the wilderness for a little elephant thrill killing would likely be.
