Nuclear Deal Reached with Iran; Netanyahu: “Israel not Bound by the Deal”
Earlier today, a deal was finally achieved after years of negotiations between the US and the Iranian Republic with regards to the Iranian nuclear program:
CNN: Landmark Deal on Iranian Nuclear Program
Vienna (CNN)After arduous talks that spanned 20 months, negotiators have reached a landmark deal aimed at reining in Iran’s nuclear program.
The agreement, a focal point of U.S. President Barack Obama’s foreign policy, appears set to reshape relations between Iran and the West, with its effects likely to ripple across the volatile Middle East.
Representatives of Iran, the United States and the other nations involved in the marathon talks were holding a final meeting in Vienna on Tuesday. Obama praised the deal reached Tuesday morning, saying the agreement met the goals he had in place throughout negotiations.
“Today after two years of negotiation the United States together with the international community has achieved something that decades of animosity has not: a comprehensive long-term deal with Iran that will prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon,” Obama said from the White House, with Vice President Joe Biden at his side.
The new agreement has not been received well at all by the Israeli government and the Israeli public, who believe Iran is misleading the West and the deal will make it easier for Iran to reach their militarized nuclear ambitions in the future despite the terms of the agreement.
In a statement issued moments ago, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu spoke against the deal, claiming it gives Iran every incentive not to change its ways and “makes the world a much more dangerous place.” He added Iran has been given a ‘sure path’ towards its acquisition of nuclear weapons, that the State of Israel would not be bound by the deal that was reached.
Netanyahu: Israel Not Bound to Nuclear Deal
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a statement to the press in English shortly after talking to President Obama, stressing that Israel was “not bound by the nuclear deal.”
By not dismantling the nuclear program, the deal will give “an unrepentant” and “far richer” Iranian regime more regional power, the prime minister said.
Netanyahu asserted that the deal gives Iran every incentive not to change. In the coming decade, he said, the deal will “reward the terrorist regime in Iran” with hundreds of millions of dollars.
