If the tools in AZ, KS, and NC want to view the results of their constant attacks on public education and public school teachers, they only have to note what is happening in Indiana. Indiana is having problems getting teachers to fill empty positions in its public schools. Allowing unqualified individuals to teach in public schools is hazardous to students’ being able to fulfill their future career goals. I taught public high school in GA for 33 years. I retired in 2009, but I haven’t forgotten the constant screams for teacher accountability and for the need to show significant gains in student achievement. Since the GOP/ TPers took control of the state government here, millions of dollars have been diverted from public schools to charter and religious schools; teachers have been furloughed; the state education budget has been cut; a law has been passed tying teacher evaluations to student achievement; the rule for students eligible to receive Hope funding has been changed in a way that helps college students from wealthier backgrounds who don’t really need the scholarship money; lawmakers decided that there is no need for GA student test scores to be compared to those of students in other states; a more rigorous math curriculum has been “dumbed down” after some right-wingers made a lot of noise, decided it was “too tough” and complained to our cowardly state lawmakers who acted quickly to shut them up; teachers are no longer eligible for an increase in pay after earning a new advanced degree in their field of study; a new law has been passed allowing citizens to pay into a bogus scholarship fund that funnels money to private schools, tax-free; the right-wingers have created and promoted lies about Common Core, and all other types of shenanigans have occurred. Many right-wingers here don’t care what these politicians do at the present time, but I think they’ll be very concerned when little Johnny/Susie discovers years down the road that s/he can’t get into the college s/he expected to attend.

I suspect at that point they will either:

A) Be forced into going to some kind of religious college

or

B) Give up on going to college at all

Conservatives fear the fact that usually more students evolve towards more liberal views during and after formal college education.

Free of the daily influence of their parents and often ideologically rigid family, many young people first discover the “truths” they were taught as children were in fact either outright lies or clearly misinformed opinion.

Conservatives feel compelled to destroy not only grade school public education, but try and throw wrenches into our major universities as well by politically cutting budgets from more “Liberal” departments like Science and the Arts. Note that College Athletics, especially Football budgets continue to grow unopposed. We have high school stadiums that now cost more than $70 Million.

Conservatives know that as a rule, more education = more liberals. This war cannot be won unless 20th Century education itself is destroyed and replaced with political and religious dogma.
