Seems like a good idea to me, given the uproar those videos have caused (their honesty is not the issue here, only the reaction to them, politics being politics). Order the DoJ to investigate and if the investigation finds nothing then it won’t impede funding. For those who say such an investigation harasses Planned Parenthood, I’d reply “Only if it doesn’t find anything”, and that this is a way around an otherwise nasty impasse.

Thank you, Sen. Kirk, for coming up with needed solutions.

The ‘uproar’ has been among enemies of women’s rights ALONE. What you see as a helpful compromise, I see as a pointless exercise only needed to quiet down the anti-women fear-mongers. That is not enough to protect the women who need protection from the Republican Party. The ‘way around this nasty impasse’ is to vote those Republicans out of office if Kirk can’t talk sense into them.

The anti-abortion sentiment these videos feed on is not going away, and you’re not going to able to do away with politicians who cater to it. In this case the ‘big victory’ is not what you really want and you should settle for a small one.

An investigation into Planned Parenthood is the best option because an investigation that clears PP gives people like Mark Kirk and myself a tool with which to talk the more strident down. It’s also protection for PP in that way, because if the current fracas results in what in seen as a “liberal coverup”, then Planned Parenthood is going to see its clinics fire-bombed, and its staff assaulted or shot.

So yes, I’m saying Planned Parenthood and the Justice Department should jump through hoops to cut down on the number of anti-abortion people who become violent over these videos. I say so because accepting the resultant DERP is better than dealing with the aftermath of a nutter popping off.
