Kirk Compromise, Breen Ban and Duckworth Supports Women’s Healthcare in Illinois
Kirk, who was the only Republican to vote against legislation defunding Planned Parenthood Monday, is being joined by two other pro-choice Republican senators - Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). Movement on the defunding of Planned Parenthood failed to move forward Monday when it failed by 7 votes to get the 60 votes needed to end debate on the measure.
Kirk’s bill, S.1917, may work to muddy the issue set before the U.S. Senate now, by requiring the the Obama Administration’s Department of Justice to investigate Planned Parenthood Federation of America to determine whether any of its affiliates or subsidiaries engaged in illegal activity pertaining to fetal tissue.
The bill would prohibit federal funding for any Planned Parenthood affiliate found to have illegally received compensation for procuring or facilitating the donation of fetal tissue.
