Is There an Atheist Doctor in the House??
Okay, I admit the title is a bit misleading, but the weird logic I witnessed in this piece quickly led me through the looking glass. The following was posted in an LGF thread earlier today, but since my response was posted after a new thread had been created, I decided to repost my comment here. The lack of critical thinking skills of some right-wingers is just… mind boggling (emphasis mine):

Bruner disagreed: “When we only teach theory — it’s a theory, theories are unproven — but in the science class, if only one theory is taught then we’re teaching a religion. It is the religion of atheism.”

gaaaaaaaahhhhh…
Do you suppose it occurred to Bruner that by her own definition Christianity (as well as all other religions that claim a god/gods) and the very existence of God are also only theories since they can’t be empirically proven? Setting aside the fact that atheism isn’t by definition a religion, since she objects to the teaching of only one “theory,” did anyone think to ask her if—following her own logic—that would make creationism a form of atheism?1
Hey, I have an idea! How about if medical colleges start teaching faith healing? Then if you have a heart attack, serious accident, etc. your doctor can choose to lay hands on you and pray instead of providing modern medical treatment.
Of course, if your doctor is Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, etc. whatever prayers/scriptures they might choose to recite over you as you lay there bleeding and/or screaming in pain and/or turning blue might not be exactly the ones you had in mind, but forcing them to do otherwise would be persecuting them by trampling on their 1A rights. In that situation, I wonder how long it would take for even the most devout Christian to start demanding an atheist doctor who is unopposed to modern medicine… //
Here’s a link to half a dozen segments from Inside Texas Politics, including the one above, published this morning by WFAA-TV (Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex).
1. I didn’t watch the entire video, but since it’s a standard right-wing Christian gripe, I’m assuming her objection is to teaching only evolution in science classes.
