CBS and Paramount Kill Fan Films Dead.
CBS and Paramount announced their guidelines for fan made Star Trek™ films. The result is that there will be far fewer fan made productions. They will be amateurish and cheap.
This means excellent productions like Axanar are finished. As near as I could tell it broke every single one of the guidelines.
In my opinion this is really, really stupid of CBS/Paramount. Axanar had every indication of being an excellent film. Even if it didn’t go to theatres, just Blu-Ray, DVD and streaming, it would have made good money. CBS/Paramount should have said, “For 15% of all profits you can use our trademark.” It would have been free money for them. The Axanar people would have done all the work!
As I said on Facebook, “This is what happens when lawyers, accountants and managers make creative decisions. It is literally anti-creation.”
I’m going to miss not seeing Axanar. It held such promise.
