Sadaqah is the same word as Hebrew צדקה Tzedakah which refers to charity, but its root is צדק Tzedek— righteousness.

A righteous person is referred to as a tzaddik.

My boss has a Sedaqa box on his desk, and a little jar of nickels. When someone visits and happens to not drop anything in he puts a nickel in for them. A mutual blessing. We need these sentiments and traditions more than ever.

Tikkun Olam is, along with challah and latkes, one of the three Jewish concepts I have loved and adopted as an atheist. <3 to you and yours this Solstice.

I’ll just leave this here as an example of interfaith tikkun olam in action:

It wasn’t just Muslims & Christians. From the article, emphasis added:

A multitude of different faith groups are teaming up across the UK to help the homeless in the run up to Christmas.

Muslim NGOs are working hand-in-hand with churches in London to distribute food and sleeping kits.

Anglicans, Catholics, Methodists, Quakers, Jews, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs meanwhile opened up a night shelter in Leicester last week, in what is believed to be the first enterprise of its kind.

Muslims and Christians dished out hot turkey dinners and sleeping kits to around 90 homeless people at a west London church on Monday.
