#Thegreatpoolpondconversion - 200503
Another reminder of where we are.
We spent months making sandbags, sandbag walls, and hauling backfill sand to build a structure under the liner.
We re-re-measured, then took delivery and, with help from the backup singers, wrangled the 400 pound liner into place
Spent a few weeks building, then rebuilding the waterfall mechanics and rocking in the stock tank.
We are now in the middle of the landscaping / pondscaping which consists of
- filling the channel with river rock
- placing rocks, slates, pebbles, plant pots and fish caves on the two shelves
- laying down the border rocks on the deck that hold the liner and outline the pond
actually planting the plants and then filling with water
then while we wait a few months for the water to stew we’ll tackle some other related projects.
today we got the next layer of rocks into the channel bottom that we started last week.
we washed some more of the leftover river rock and dumped it in
now the liner is completely covered
Then we started working with the lava rock.
Most of the rock we’re using is smooth - slate, jack rock and river pebbles. The liner is smooth too.
Lava rock has nooks and crannies like an English Muffin.
Perfect for just enough algae and bacteria to grab on and grow.
So we power washed the 15 bags to get all the dirt and dust off and shoveled them down the chute.
And ended up with this:
Next week we’ll power wash decorative pebbles to cover all the red.
Then we move on to seascaping the shelves.
Recently the well pump (see 191110 edition) lost pressure wouldn’t prime itself.
(You don’t really care about the details).
With guidance from our resident fish and aquatic plants expert, it’s working again.
