There’s always an issue of weeds on a paver deck.
We weed whacked the deck before power washing.
Then we couldn’t get the deck sealer and paint down fast enough.
So lots of weeds started coming up through the cracks.
There’s no way to paint over 2+ inch weeds and grass seedlings
So we started pulling them out. This was not part of the glorious, glamorous plan.
There were a lot of weeds we couldn’t just pull up.
Some of them had developed long roots that went well under the pavers.
We’ve probably been cutting the tops off for years.
On our knees to start taking up some tiles.
Definitely not part of the glorious, glamorous plan.
By the time of this picture, we had already put a lot of tiles back into place.
We probably pulled up just under 1/4 of all the tiles. You’re just seeing part of the deck here.
It was two days of backbreaking work. And we got it done.
Did we mention 90+ degrees and a billion percent humidity?
Next is clear sealer and then grey stain and done.
We’ve entered a kind of lull.
The waterfall is running. The solar is now stable.
And we have a short list of things that need to be tweaked or fixed from the original construction.
The deck was planned though it’s taking much longer than expected.
While it probably could have waited, it will make everything else still in progress look further on and really nice.
And we put some additional focus into the field these last few weeks.
The deck was pink, now it’s grey. Ho-hum.
We want to get back to doing things that show progress, that look like progress, and photograph well.
Creating, building, hammering, cutting, drilling; raised beds, filters, fences;🔨🔧😁
We haven’t been thrown many curve balls like this. And this was only 2 days. But an annoying two.
We planned pretty well and haven’t underestimated the time for each step (oh, except for all that never ending sand!)
So we’re back on track.
Here’s Comets just schooling around.
And the waterfall, because things come in threes.
This week there was a good sized green iguana under the birdbath.
No photo, so play along and picture it in your mind.
