Police Sound the Alarm on Loosened Gun Laws. Judges Aren’t Listening.
Long-time readers of LGF know I am a pro-gun for defense or sport guy. For newer members, I’ll mention I once served on a shooting range board of directors and competed in the “World Speed Shooting Championship” several times. I came to shooting as a defensive martial artist. To me handguns were just another weapon to safely learn, practice, and (heaven forbid) use if necessary.
What makes me crazy about this latest trend is how the net effect is good for bad guys. The exact kind of person that makes it more likely I will use a gun defensively. With all that comes with a gunfight in danger, liabilities, and legal consequences. We need the gun show loophole closed, solid registration and background checks etc.
The analogy I would use is the first Amendment being found to protect threats and hate speech. It’s law that makes civilization less civil, more dangerous and inconsistent with the pursuit of happiness.
Nearly each day we have news of some mass shooting that comes from hate. Not a robbery turned violent. But pure personal animus for another human being. To me, this is uniquely disturbing. Empowering haters is a massive mistake. Todays headlines incluse a mass shoot at a gay / trans club in colorado springs. Hatred at its worst.

Earlier this month, a federal judge in Texas declared that it was unconstitutional to prohibit domestic abusers under a protective order from having a gun.
It’s one of the latest examples in a troubling trend initiated by the Supreme Court’s June ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, which signaled the potential for a wave of court-mandated rollbacks of gun regulations. An oft-overlooked consequence of this is how relaxing gun laws prevents police officers from doing their jobs properly.
