Forget Continuity: Man Utd Must Consider Ditching Moyes

I was at the game and found it profoundly embarrassing to watch a frankly fantastic team, the reigning champs, stumbling and flailing.

Because it took Fergie some time to make an impact - and what an impact! - we have all felt, gritting our teeth, that it would be OK for Moyes to settle for a top 4 finish and a cup semi-final or two this year and let’s see if we’re in contention for silverware by Christmas in the new season, rather than being a moneybags team constantly firing and hiring until we win something. Fergie showed it needn’t be that way. But the players seem constrained out of position and not allowed to play Manchester United’s famous attacking football. Even a top four finish is not going to happen. Upsetting.

Time was if a game went badly we’d all be chanting “Attack!” and they would and we’d get a late win. I mean, like, one year ago. I tried it and got sympathetic smiles from the season ticket holders. They’ve had enough of Moyes.

I am not expecting great shakes that would overcome our two-goal deficit against Olympiakos and I do find Moyes to be deeply negative in his tactics and disconcerting in his demeanour, but for me if this game doesn’t go better (Olympiakos ain’t Liverpool) I will have to side with those calling for his exit. It is not right for him to call his job safe as if the pressure is off, with performances like that.

You get a ding for mentioning it. :)
