No, they were thinking - “classic rock musician on tour, available, fits in well with Styx & REO. Cheap too”. Having seen those kinds of shows as a trooper, I can guarantee all they want is a cheap band the kids will enjoy. Once he opened his mouth and became controversial, he was no longer “cheap enough” because controversy is far worse than spending money.
