I don’t think a GOPer going against Limbaugh could have happened in the 90s either. Even then, Limbaugh was the bigoted voice of the GOP base, and GOPers were either crazy themselves or well aware of the need to pander to the crazies.

Yeah I sadly think you are right. Limbaugh basically was a national voice of what Lee Atwater was doing for years. Really, I see conservatives cry about how liberals call them racist. Well a non racist ideology wouldn’t have let Limbaugh build up what he did. It’s their own damn fault is my point that they’re seen as racists by the left. They can cry race card all they want but conservatives have earned as far as I’m concerned the racist label. That’s not to say all conservatives are racists but most racists in this country are definitely conservatives.
