re: #1003 Naso Tang

On anecdotal examples, I toured Sweden this summer. Talking of weather with residents it seems that the real snow line has moved a hundred miles or more to the north from south central Sweden, and that is not just a fluke the past few years.

There are deniers who say that this is just normal short term weather fluctuation, even while the data suggests different.”

My experience (born 1957) is that we have had periods of warm with no snow and cold weather with lots of snow so I wouldn’t rely to much in that. Scientists usually claim that we shouldn’t focus on regional variations, as for instance the warm summers in the US during the thirties, but look at the big picture.

Another problem is the possibility of other trends that may cloud this picture, such as has just been posited by proponents of AGW, that what’s called a natural global cooling has been overridden by the CO2 increase.

There are those who admit to a changing trend, but point to geological evidence of past changes, while ignoring the issue of whether change can be caused by different factors.

There are the hard core morons who dismiss everything by saying Co2 is plant food, so how can it be bad?

Then there are those who say nothing we do will make a difference, and it will reduce our standard of living, so don’t even bother.

I am actually somewhat sympathetic to the latter, since my pessimist half tells me that the real root problem is not increasing Co2, but the explosively increasing human population. What is the number these days? Something around 70,000,000 new people per year?

No politician ever mentions that.
