Actually, it *was* an open City before 1967. Really. The Arabs never enforced the rejection. It was a live and let live status quo until ‘67. No Israeli cops in the Al-Aqsa mosque. No Arabs pitching shit on worshipers at the Wailing Wall. No Israeli incursions into East Jerusalem to build enclaves. Stasis.

Again, the Israeli actions have been a disaster for what was fundamentally a quiet town to prior to ‘67.

I’m sorry, but you are wrong. The Jordanians did not allow any Jew into East Jerusalem. They also systematically desecrated all Jewish religious sites in their sector. Their were no worshipers allowed at the Wailing Wall and the Jordanians used the site as a trash dump. Don’t fall for Arab propaganda: The Jordanians never ran their part of Jerusalem as an open city.
