I will say this. It amazes me that Americans can talk with pride about our own founders and how they bravely broke away from Britain and yet feel they can tell the Scots that they should stick with Britain because “it’s better for them.” And honestly, it’s an attitude I’ve seen from people I not only consider friends but ideological allies. I don’t like it. If you think Scotland is better off part of the UK, that’s fine and a legitimate opinion but I don’t like Americans who have never lived in Scotland and are the direct beneficiaries of a war of independence telling people they must stay a part of something. I realize the jerk in question is Canadian. Rant off I suppose.

Speaking only for myself, I didn’t say Scotland ‘must’ do anything. I said I felt it was in their best interests to stay in the UK, but at no time did I ever imply that it was anything other than their decision.
