What do they have to gain by announcing a false speaker?

Credibility, creating a wedge issue, increasing antisemitic sentiment in the US, press coverage…..even just debating whether it’s going to happen is publicity for the rest of the event.

It’s far more likely that they honestly believe he’s going to show than the opposite.

There’s a lot of things that they honestly believe, but are not true. It’s what they do.
