What’s even more baffling is that all Senate Democrats (except for Reid) went along with the Republicans for this override. Hell, Franken (among others) even co-sponsored the Senate bill, FFS; for such a policy wonk, I would think that he would be able to see that this bill was a very bad idea.

I swear, we Democrats can be our own worst enemies sometimes, because this was nothing but craven election-year pandering.

I don’t know Franken’s motivations, but the law contains a provision that allows the State Department to stop any lawsuit. More importantly, though, I’m actually OK with the Democrats going along with it. McConnell and Co were hoping to use this against the Democrats. But they can’t; they can’t use it against Obama because he’s not running, and they can’t use it against Democrats because they voted for it. Notice who’s missing from any news about it: Democrats. This is all on McConnell’s shoulders.
