(The idea is that you feed enough oats to a horse and some of the seeds will pass out in the horse apples for sparrows to pick out, benefiting the sparrows. Possibly a better metaphor since it describes a big steaming pile of manure in the road.)

And that WE are supposed to pick through a pile of shit left by the rich to find food for ourselves.
