Basically true, IMO. Which is why I think whoever the Democratic candidate is next year has GOT to craft a campaign strategy that is going to target the enough of the right states to swing the EC vote decisively (sorry, foax: anti-democratic anachronism as it might be, we can’t fix that system in time, and have to work with it), Trump losing NE, CA, or NY by 70-30 margins isn’t going to kick him out of the WH: nor will even the hugest popular-vote margin (since we’ve seen how much Trump/the GOP cares about that).

I wonder what the battleground states are going to be. For the first time, I think Virginia is solidly in the blue column but others are going to be more complicated since they were won by Obama and Trump both. How to flip those back is a key question. IMO, I don’t think Trump has enough of a support base to retain them at the moment. But a lot can change between now and next fall.
