re: #94 Cato the Elder
Can someone identify for me the approximate moment in time when “progressive” became the new “liberal” as the conservatives’ favorite feel-the-hate word for people they disagree with?
Of course conservatives are all for progress, especially if it lines their pockets and hurts poor people at the same time. But “progressive” is bad, bad, baddy-bad.
Just like conservation, which you might think a conservative would embrace.
But then, logic has never been a conservative value.
Anyway, when did the asshole right stop hating liberals and start foaming at the mouth about progressives?
Republicans/the GOP/people on the right made “liberal” a dirty word with sayings like “Limousine liberal” and “tax and spend liberal” and so on and so forth.
Eventual “liberal” becomes an a “bad word” that people don’t want to be associated with.
People on the left decide to start calling themselves progressives.
People on the right decide the time has start shoveling s*** on the new name for their political opponents.
