Of course we should note that removing the hearing protection for communicating a lesson between actual firing sessions is really really common. All you see is a snapshot at an event.

Just like I started with. There is no good reason to start a young person with a big loud high recoil gun. I get started at eight years old. Some here are offended at that given the assumption that gun equals bad. Yeah well I really enjoyed hunting and fishing with family. That built on a sense of responsibility later when my family partnered up in a small plane. As a 9 year old I got flying lessons, controls in hand. Both things are quite dangerous if mishandled. the responsibility lesson lasts a lifetime.

I am not against correct usage in any way, but back to that photo…it just screams to me that the parent is flexing the power of their rights onto their kids.
