Ultimately they used ambush because they were bad tanks, not because it was TD doctrine.

The Hellcat feels like the exception because it was purpose built to be stupid fast, easy to maintain and heavily gunned at a time when allied armor comparatively sucked. So at least it addressed a real problem with an innovative solution.
