Purely triva relative to chili discusison later thread:
It’s not from India, it’s from Bhutan. The anglicized “ghost pepper” comes from “bhut jolokhia,” where “bhut” can alternately be, depending on vowel length, the term for Bhutanese people (bhut) or a kind of regional undead (bhoot).
There’s the same thing going on with Naga jolokhia…they’re grown in Nagaland, by the Naga people, but nagas are also magic snake demigods.
