I’m reading Destiny of a Nation, about the Garfield assassination, right now. It’s kind of horrid to read how Garfield’s injury wasn’t that bad, but unhygienic probing of the wound pretty much killed him. And the primary physician totally dissed the younger ones who were into Lister’s ideas about not jamming filthy fingers into wounds.

Conspiracy hay could be made with this, I think.
