What do these women have in common?

Sadly, that fact that I’d never heard of any of them until they were on the receiving end of scores of disgusting harassment. Well, add one more name to the list: game developer Brianna Wu (pictured). A few weeks ago she retweeted a couple “Oppressed GamerGater” memes, images of a child throwing a tantrum accompanied by phrases such as “This is about corruption. *Tweets 500 things attacking women” and “Fighting an apocalyptic future… where women are 8% of programmers and not 3%.”

Some of the responses she received were scary enough to drive her from her home, something that Sarkeesian and Quinn have also experienced.

A week later, Wu came back and came back pissed. “I have to be honest. A mob telling you they will castrate your husband, make you choke to death on the parts, murder any children you might have and then rape your ass until it bleeds has a way of scaring the hell out of you,” Wu wrote at xoJane.com. “But, you know, because I am the Godzilla of bitches, by Saturday morning I was pissed off. I’m talking Jack Bauer pissed off. So, I decided I was going to do everything in my power to stop these fuckers.”
