I hate to sound like some privileged twit thinking there’s nobility in poverty, because the song’s got so much soul, but I do hope the “character” of the place doesn’t get ruined.

I hope they can build a better economy on something like a New Orleans French Quarter model. Clean things up, bring things up to code, get services running, but don’t destroy it all and put up some shiny tan and silver hell-pile of a resort. Preserve, protect, and fix up what’s there, whether it dates from 1955 or 1755 or whatever. Build the prosperity AND keep the charm.
